When you cant continue with the admission process of a college or university due to any personal reason, you will need to hand in a admission letter for deferment and request the admission to be delayed to the next academic session. This letter requires a simple format:
- The letter should be formal, and to the point.
- Explain clearly why your admission should be deferred.
- Stress on why this opportunity is important for you.
- Be clear in asking to get enrolled in the next session.
Here is a sample to give you an idea of the layout of this letter:

Dear Mr. Ryan,
I was deeply pleased to receive a letter of admission for BBA at the 2015 Fall program at London School of Economics last week. However, I deeply regret to inform you that I will be unable to join the admission for this new semester, despite my strong desire to study in your University.
Due to several personal reasons, and my father’s treatment being done in Switzerland, I will be gone for a few months to accompany him. I humbly request you to allow a deferral of my admission as it is my dream to study at LSE, and the University is my number one choice to pursue my education from.
I am hopeful that you will allow me this temporary leave and place me in the next term. I will be grateful to your kind approval of my deferral request.
Looking forwards to your response,
Regards,
Anthony Williams
