It is so annoying when water pools at your feet in the shower, or when the sink water won’t drain as you wash the dishes. You don’t need a plumber to fix a clogged drain when you can easily unclog it yourself with a few household items. Some kitchen staples and household objects can work their magic in opening up the drain in no time.

Baking Soda & Vinegar

Baking soda and vinegar are like the Batman and Robin of cleaning everything. When these two are combined, nothing can beat the duo! Dump 1/2 a cup of baking soda in the clogged drain and let it stay for a few minutes. Next, pour a cup of vinegar down the drain, along with a cup of boiled water. Cover the drain with a drain plug for 5-10 minutes, and then let the water flow again freely.

Wire Hanger

An effective and simple technique to try when unclogging a drain is by using a wire coat hanger. Straighten it out and then at its end, form a hook by slightly bending it. push it down the drain and begin fishing! You will fish out a lot of gunk this way.

Millipede

Uncoil a millipede and stick it into the drain. Crank it a few times and pull up to unclog your drain.

Wet & Dry Vacuum

This actually is a very good way to unclog a drain. Set the vacuum to ‘vacuum liquids’ cover the vent. Turn the vacuum on its highest and place over the drain to unclog the pipe into the vacuum bag.

Bellows Plunger

Take one of these mini plungers and force it over the drain. After a few pumps, your drain will open.

Toilet Bomb

Designed just for a clogged toilet, this is a unique technique to steer the water of the flush clean! Place muffin liners in a tin, and mix together 2 cups baking soda with Epsom salt in a separate bowl. Stir in 9 tablespoons liquid detergent in the mixture and now scoop the mixture in the muffin cups. Let this mixture dry overnight (or 8 hours) at a room temperature. Throw a bomb in the flush and add hot water as you do into the toilet. Wait for 4 hours, and then flush your toilet.

Coca-Cola and Pepsi

You don’t need to drink those carbonated drinks for health reason, and maybe dump them down the drain to unclog it! It is better than any chemical clog remover in the market as by pouring down Coke or Pepsi in a drain that is clogged, the bubble and fizz will open up the drain within an hour. The phosphoric acid in these drinks is very acidic (even more than lemon juice), and it punches down the gunk collected in the drain.

Hot Water

Hot water is the best friend of unclogging drains. Hot water will melt the grease clinging on the sides of the drain, and cold water will harden it further. Boil some water in a pot and then pour it in the clogged drain. The grime and hardened grease will meltdown instantly. It’s just that simple!
