No matter how old they turn, they will always be your kids. And there will come a time when your child grows into the legal driving age. This is an exciting and frightening time for all parents, but you can ease your mind by guiding and teaching them the safe and correct way to drive. This will aid in building their motor skills and raise their confidence on the road.

Before they give their driving test and get their license, follow these steps to teach your child the right way to drive:

Find a Quiet Place to Practice

This can be an empty parking lot, ideally. You need space for your child to learn driving and turning the car around. With no cars or people on the road, they can focus on understanding the car mechanism and have no pressure on hitting anything. Give a lesson on such a spot on a bright and sunny day.

Explain the Driving Basics

While taking them to the parking lot, narrate the basics on driving to them. Explain acceleration, stopping, and crossing an intersection. Guide them on using a clutch and stick-shift gear. Discuss all driving rules with them.

Teach them Driving

Allow them to start the car and encourage them to drive the car in a straight line. Then ask them to slowly circle and turn the car. Remember to keep your first lesson with them short, and make them practice in the same car.

Teach the Right Way to Park

Parking may come as a difficult point as the teen needs to learn how to park perpendicular mostly. Ask them to keep a view in the passenger side mirror, and then make them turn the wheel. When they go halfway in, they should straighten the wheel. Guide them in the same way for parallel parking.

Remain Calm & Encourage

Encouraging the child is the most important part of driving. Tell them about their mistakes constructively and remain calm.

Take them on the Road

Once they have a good hand and practice with the car, take them on the road for increasing their confidence. You can take them slowly into the city then.
