Hold the pencil in a way that the major part of the tip remains in contact with the paper. - Learn how to correctly hold the pencil as well. This will be done by holding the pencil between your thumb, index finger, and the middle finger. Do not place pressure on your index finger, and do not bend your fingers to give an unnecessary bend to them. By holding the pencil correctly, you will have more control over it and shade better with the coloring pencil.
- Try hatching (drawing parallel lines), cross-hatching (making lines at different angles), and circular strokes with the pencil to practice shading.
