With overuse, plastics tend to lose their color and shine. They end up with scratches and marks. Most plastic boxes or containers in the kitchen get stained and scratched due to constant usage, and they are tough to clean especially if you have filled that box with tomato sauce or pasta sauce. To remove the stain made on a plastic container due to various foods, different techniques can be tried:

How To Remove Stains From Plastic

Rubbing Alcohol

Apply rubbing alcohol over the stain, as it can clean coffee stains, tea stains, tomato sauce stains, juice remains, and soda stains. The best way to clean such a stain is to apply rubbing alcohol on the stain and leave it for some time before washing with water.

White Vinegar

White vinegar can remove a stain from plastic easily like chlorine bleach. Simply mix vinegar in water, in equal portions, and leave it in the container for a few hours. This method is safer than bleach as white vinegar is edible.

Baking Soda

Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply over the stain. Let the paste stay on for a good thirty minutes. Wash it off immediately and let the container dry.

Lemon Juice

Lemons are citric and acidic making it strong in removing stubborn stains. Use lemon juice to get rid of a stain and oil stains. Rub the lemon juice over the stain and leave it in the sun for a day. The lemon and sun rays combined will discolor the container and also remove all traces of bacteria.

Chlorine Bleach

Chlorine bleach is effective in removing stubborn stains. Do not apply the bleach directly onto the plastic, but instead, make a mixture of water and bleach and let the liquid stay on it for an hour. Wash the plastic then with water. You can remove ink, soda, coffee, tomato sauce or paste, and tea stains with bleach. Remember to wash the container thoroughly afterwards.

Salt

Mix salt with warm water and wash the plastic container with the mixture. The stain will lighten and reduce in color.

Alka Seltzer

Place two tablets of any denture tablets or Alka Seltzer in warm water in the container, and leave it overnight. Wash thoroughly the next day.

Hand Sanitizer

Squirt hand sanitizer on a stained plastic ware, and then rub while washing it off. Rinse and then dry to see a difference in the color.

Denture Tablets (similar to Alka Seltzer)

Add 2 tablets of denture tablets to hot water and pour the mixture over the discolored part of the container. Let it stay there till the discoloration fades, and then wash and rinse the container.

Dishwasher Detergent

Make a paste with some dishwasher detergent and hot water. Rub it on the stains and let the paste sit there for a while. After 30 minutes, rinse off the paste.

Dawn Power Dissolver

Dawn Power Dissolver is created just for stain removal and works perfectly. If its use has not removed the stain, soak the container in warm water mixed with Dawn Power Dissolver, and let it stay for 30 minutes. Rinse and dry when the discoloration disappears.
