Lacquer is a fine coat of polish that is applied to a brass instrument to make it shiny, and to protect it from tarnish. However, most people prefer the natural and rugged look of bras objects. For this, the lacquer on it has to be removed.
To remove lacquer from a brass object, all you need are a few materials and a simple guide to follow:
Things you need
- Cotton balls
- Clean cloth
- Baking soda
- Nail polish varnish
- Small soft bristle brush
- Gloves
- Large pot or container
- Water
Instructions
- Fill a pot with water and heat it over a stove.
- Place the instrument in the pot, detaching all its parts if possible (Incase, the instrument is too big; you may pour the hot water on it along with the substances that have been mentioned ahead and clean it along with foam or a cloth).
- Add a teaspoon of baking soda in the water.
- Allow the water to boil for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Remove the instrument from the water with gloved hands.
- Peel off the lacquer layer when the instrument cools.
- Remove the remaining areas with baking soda mixed in water applied on a cotton ball, and nail polish remover.
- With the small brush, rub off the areas you cannot reach with your hands.
