The term ‘hernia’ is used for a medical condition in which a part of the body pushes out through a tissue or muscle, and out from the abdominal wall or groin area. Hernia may occur at different parts of the body, including the abdomen, belly button, groin area, or the stomach. It is painful, and causes discomfort to the sufferer. Hernia is caused by lung disease, overweight, lifting heavy objects, constant cough, and hereditary reasons.

Although it should first be checked with a doctor, you can try some home remedies to relieve the pain:

Ice Packs

Apply an ice pack over the hernia site if you have a slight discomfort. Do not apply it directly, but instead wrap it with a cloth or towel before placing it on the skin. Keep applying for 15 minutes. This will reduce the swelling and inflammation. Do this twice a day.

Take a Painkiller

If the pain has increased, take a mild painkiller, like ibrufen or acetaminophen.

Wear a Support Truss

If the hernia is of the groin, or inguinal hernia, wear a truss, which is a special support that reduces the pain. Consult your doctor about wearing it.

Drink Ginger Tea or Chamomile Tea

Drink a cup of ginger tea on an empty stomach to reduce hernia pain. On the other hand, you can try drinking chamomile tea at regular intervals during the day to soothe hernia pain.

Consume Yogurt

Yogurt is another alternative if you are not a tea lover. Yogurt is a natural pain reliever for hernia, and should be consumed three times a day for instant results.

Water

Drinking a lot of water will relieve the pain of a hernia, as in the case of inguinal hernia, the intestine’s soft tissue begins to protrude through a tear in the abdominal wall.

Drink Apple Cider Vinegar

By mixing a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 6 ounces of water, and a pint of honey, you can reduce the pain caused by the hernia.
