The meat of a turkey is rich and juicy, and loved by meat eaters. Turkey meat is at its peak in demands during the Thanksgiving season, where almost every house has a turkey feast set up for a hearty meal. In order to prepare that feisty meal, a clean and plucked turkey is needed, which is available from markets in fresh and frozen forms. But most people enjoy plucking their own turkeys to make the tradition of the special day feel more alive.
Here is the right way to pluck a turkey by hand:
Things you will need
- Rubber gloves
- Large washtub or container
- Large pan
- Turkey
- Butter knife
Instructions
- Fill a large pot with water enough to dip the turkey in. Do not place the turkey in it. Simply put that water on boil, and pour the water in a large tub that is able to hold the turkey and the water together.
- Wear the gloves, and hold the turkey by one leg. Give it a good dip in the boiling water. Hold it there to make the feathers drench fully. Move the turkey in the water to make it fully went. This dip will make
the feathers soften to pluck easily.
- Now take out the turkey, and then place it on your worktable or kitchen slab, which should be covered with a rag. Begin pulling out the feathers, keeping a special attention on the small feathers under the legs and wings. Do not yank the feathers, otherwise the turkey skin may tear.
- Once the turkey has been plucked, run it under cold water to clean it.
