Scrapple is a delicious German food that is loved by many people. It is available in packages and sliced for baking or frying, but making scrapple from scratch is a fun and healthy way to create this scrumptious delight.
Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 3/4 cups water
- 8 ounces of sausages
- All-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
Method
- Rinse the cooked sausage, and then drain the water to remove the excess fat. If you aren’t into greasy food, use minced chicken meat.
- In a saucepan, place the water over the stove and heat it till it boils.
- Stir the cornmeal, salt, sugar, pepper, and milk in a separate bowl. Whisk these all together and then pour the batter in the boiling water, while stirring with a wooden spoon.
- Stir this mixture till it warms and simmers. Set it on a low heat and let it bubble. Place a lid on the pot to let it cook. Let it turn into a thick and stiff mix. This will occur after 10 minutes. Now add the sausage and pour the full batter into a large bread loaf pan. Your scrapple is made but not fully cooked.
- To bake the scrapple, you will preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line the tray with an aluminum foil and spray a nonstick spray over it.
- Slice the scrapple into slices like bread. Place these slices one the tray and set it in the oven. Turn the slices over after 25 minutes. Bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and serve hot.
