Money can be taken out of your account in many unauthorized ways . Sometimes you are going through your bank statements and you find out there are a few banking transactions that you do not recognize, all of a sudden your heart sinks and you call your bank to find out that your money has been taken out of your account without your consent, what do you do?
Call you bank up: the first thing that you should do is call your bank up, preferably tell them to put you through to the fraud department and you should inform them immediately of this mishap. You should ask them to block your cards that have been used for the online purchases and reimburse you the money as it wasn’t your fault. However your bank can refuse a refund if they suspect that you have authorized the transaction.
Reset your password: you should reset your login password, pin, security question answers in case you suspect that your account has been hacked.
Use an anti virus: if you suspect that your account has been hacked right after you have made online purchase then you should scan and clean your PC with the latest ant virus scanner. This would help by getting rid of any rootkit or key logger that you may have installed on your PC which may have compromised your details and caused the breach.
Report the fraud to the local Police station: it is very important that the law enforcement agencies should be informed of the fraud as it is a requirement of some banks that the police should be informed so that quick action may be taken.
Make sure that your contact details like your address, telephone numbers are not changed by the hacker and be quick in reporting the fraud as cases that usually are reported within 24 hours are much easier to solve.
