Making its way from simple beach side parties to its debut in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Thousand Island dressing has become a special homemade sauce to enhance the flavors of a variety of foods. The tangy yet sweet tasting sauce can be used as an accompaniment to salads, seafood, crudités, burgers, and sandwiches.
You don’t have to go out to buy a bottled version of the sauce when you can make it yourself at home with this very simple recipe:
Ingredients
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish (or chopped pickles)
- 1 teaspoon finely chopped onion
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Directions
- Combine all the above ingredients in a bowl, or in a food processor and mix well, until a paste forms.
- Place the dressing in the refrigerator for a few minutes before serving.
And just like that, you have a tangy sauce ready to serve with your scrumptious meal!
