I always used to see mini rubber band toy boxes filled in with different colors at the toy stores and wondered how they worked.  How could tiny elastic bands make a bracelet? I didn’t buy any because I knew I wouldn’t be able to sit and make one, so I would turn away from those aisles. My life was going by easily… Until my daughter got one as a gift for her birthday by a friend! The horror set over me for a few days, but then I read a few tricks on how to make a rubber band bracelet and it turned out so easy, I ended up making a dozen for her and all her friends at school. They not only look cute and stylish, they are actually quite fun to make!

Here’s the simplest way to make a rubber band bracelet that looks a lot like a fishtail:

  1. Take a colored rubber band and use two fingers – your index and middle one – to hold the band by making a figure “8” with them. You have to poke each finger through the holes of the “8” shaped rubber bands, and hold onto them.

  1. Now, place two more rubber bands on top of these fingers but do not twist them into the figure “8” shape. You just have to slide the two rubber bands over your fingers like an “O” shape.

  1. Pull up the bottom rubber band (that was used as an 8 shape) over the two new rubber bands, and set it on top of the two right in their middle.

  1. Now add one new rubber band to your fingers in an “O” shape again.

  1. Pullover the last rubber band on your fingers and drop then in the center.

  1. Keep repeating the same pattern. You will see a fishtail being made between your two fingers. Continue weaving until your bracelet is the right size you need.

  1. To finish the bracelet, take the two bottom rubber bands on the bottom and pull them over the last one left on your finger, make one left on your finger.

  1. Slip one end of the remaining one left on top the other so that you have formed a “C” shaped band at the end of the bracelet.

  1. Pull the end into the “S” shaped nook provided in the box. Now pull the first rubber band you had started with into the nooks other end.

And with that, you have a beautiful made for your little girl! Create in multi-colors or single colors to go with all outfits!

You even play around with the designs and make them look fancier and thicker. You can use pencils instead of fingers as shows below:
