Architectural shingles are different from the asphalt singles as they come with a heavier base as compared to their traditional counterparts. Although they cost a bit more than the traditional shingles, yet they also come with a lifetime warrantee with them. The best thing is that you can actually install them all by yourself, instead of asking for professional assistance.
Things You Need
- Architectural Shingles
- Hammer
- Nails
- Utility Knife
The Actual Process
- The first and the foremost thing is that the architectural shingles should not line up with the already present shingles in the same row.
- Now lay the first row of shingles at the lowest most corner on the left side. The row should be present at least half an inch above the eaves. Nail them over there.
- Now install the second row just above the first one. Nail it down as well.
- When it comes to the top row, cut out 6 inches of the shingle. Place a whole shingle beside it. Complete the row in the same way.
- Now make sure that you place the next row in a manner that it overlaps with the previous one by 0.5 inches. For this purpose you need to cut 12 inches off from the first shingle. Place the rest of the shingles accordingly, trimming the last one, if needed.
- Now, you can lay all the rows in the same manner effectively, overlapping them at the top of the roof.
