Keloids are abnormal growths of the fibrous tissues. These are scars formed over healing scars, and occur from an excessive growth of the granulation tissue. Also known as keloidal scars, these appear in red or pink color, and arise due to injuries or acne. These scars are harmless but they give a discomfort to the sufferer as they increase in size overtime, and they may become itchy and painful too.

 

There are medical treatments and surgeries to remove these, but trying home remedies can aid in getting rid of it easily without any pain or expense. Try these home remedies to get rid of a keloid at home:

 

Baking Soda

Baking soda is an abrasive home ingredient which effectively works in removing a keloid. Simply mix a teaspoon of baking soda with three teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide. Apply it over the keloid with a cotton ball and leave it for 15 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water then. Do this three times a day for a month at least to see the keloid shrink away.

 

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has many benefits, and one of them is removing keloids form the skin. The acidic nature of this vinegar softens and exfoliates the skin. Simply, mix two teaspoons of it with a teaspoon of water in a cup, and apply it to the keloid with a cotton ball. Leave it on for half an hour and then wash off. Continue with this remedy for a few weeks, ensuring you do it three times daily.

 

Aloe Vera

Ale vera helps in moisturizing the skin and regenerating skin cells in a damaged area. Cut open an aloe plant leaf and extract its gel. Apply if directly over the keloid, and let it dry. Apply it five times a day for a few days to see positive results.

 

Lemon Juice

Lemons contain vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant and gets rid of scars, like keloids.  Extract the juice of a lemon and directly apply it to the keloid. Leave it on for 30 minutes, and wash off then with lukewarm water. Pat it dry and apply moisturizer to it. Do this twice a day for a month to see a change.

 

Garlic

Garlic extracts are found to affect the growth of the fibroblast cells, which are the reasons of forming keloid scar’s. Crush 3-4 garlic cloves and apply the past over the keloid for 15 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water and pat dry, followed by moisturizing it.

 

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil can treat keloid scars as it raises skin restoration, and removes scars from turning permanent. Soak a cotton ball in some lavender oil and apply it on the affected area. Leave it for 15 minutes and then wash off. Do this remedy for a month, twice a day.
