Dry scalp flakes are a result of infections, eczema, dandruff and over-shampooing. It arises usually in winters due to the dry weather, which makes the scalp dry. The result of it is itchiness, excessive hair fall, frizzy hair, and white flakes that appear like dandruff. However, dry scalp flake are different from dandruff in that in this hair problem, the sebaceous glands turn dehydrated and make the scalp dry. In dandruff, the sebum produced by the sebaceous glands is overproduced.

In order to get rid of dry scalp flakes, the scalp and hair needs to be moisturized. This can be achieved at home with these basic ingredients:

 

Coconut Oil

Oiling is the best way to combat dry scalp flakes. Using coconut oil will increase the blood circulation in your scalp and it will supply the hair follicles with the essential nutrients it needs to lock moisture in it. Simply apply warm coconut oil in the hair for an hour (or overnight for faster results), and wash off then with a mild shampoo. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times a week.

 

Apple Cider Vinegar

The pH level of the scalp is balanced with apple cider vinegar. It has antibacterial properties that fight off bacteria that causes scalp infections. Simply combine 1/2 a cup of apple cider vinegar with water and massage into the hair. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse hair followed by a shampoo.

 

Mayonnaise

The eggs within mayonnaise nourishes the scalp and hair. In addition, the vinegar fights the bacteria that dries the scalp. Simply, apply mayonnaise over the scalp and cover your hair with a shower cap for 20 minutes. Wash your hair with shampoo. Repeat this process a few times a week.

 

Olive Oil

Olive oil has antibacterial properties that can relieve a dried scalp. Simply, mix warm olive oil with 2 teaspoons of honey and apply to the scalp for 30 minutes. Rinse off with a mild shampoo. Repeat this regularly for effective results.

 

Aloe Vera

The cooling and soothing effect of aloe vera treats a dry scalp. Simply, extract the aloe vera gel from an aloe leaf. Blend this gel in a blender and add some oil to it. Apply to the hair for 20 minutes, and rinse off.

 

Other tips to get rid of dry scalp

  • Use shampoo less frequently.
  • Avoid using very hot water to wash your hair.
  • Give yourself scalp massages.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals on your hair.
  • Avoid using hair styling products.
  • Keep a good diet.
  • Drink plenty of water.
