If any piece of your furniture has a small hole mysteriously, you must be aware that carpenter bees are near. Carpenter bees resemble bumblebees, but they are benign and only burrow holes in wood for nesting.
To get rid of a carpenter bee infestation, here are simple steps you can take:
- Use a vacuum cleaner over the hole to suck in the bees. This remedy is best for a new nesting.
- Place a stereo or boom box near the bees dwelling to encourage them to go away. Carpenter bees can’t stand music!
- In a spray bottle, add diesel or petrol and spritz over the affected areas. You will need to wear gloves, a respirator, and goggles when doing this.
- Fill in the holes with steel wool to block light and airflow.
- Use a bee spray at effected areas and squirt directly over the nests. After spraying, cover the hole with tape for a whole day.
- Spray boric acids over the holes the carpenter bees have formed to kill the larvae.
- Make a citrus spray for the bees. Carpenter bees can’t resist citrus smells. Boil lemons, oranges, grapefruits or limes in water, and fill the water then in a spray bottle. Spray over the holes.
