Death is an unavoidable incident, and the death of a loved on is a time you need to take time off from work. A break from the office gives a peace of mind and in order to take a leave, you will need to write a death leave letter.

A death leave letter has to be short, and start with the unfortunate news of the passed one. You will then have to explain your relation with them. Remember to stay clear on the dates you will not be coming in to the office, and leave your contact number in the end for the colleagues to reach you at if need arises in the office.

In order to ease you in writing a death leave letter to take time off from work, here is a sample to follow:

Dear Mr. Albern,

I must regretfully inform you that my mother-in-law has passed away last night, and me and my wife will have to travel to Florida today to attend her funeral. For this reason, I will not be able to come to the office for the next 2 days, November 18, and November 19.

Kindly understand my situations and approve my 2-day leave from the office. I will be back at work on November 20, and complete my missed work.

Your’s Sincerely,

William Anthony
